Could anyone recommend a type and/or brand of elastic that would be well-suited for the waistbands for toddler/preschooler clothing?

After opening some of the packs that I had, I realized that although the width was good (3/4" and up), some of the elastic was too stiff and hard to stretch for children's clothing. If anyone can point me in the right direction and save me from buying the wrong type, I'd really appreciate it!

If you want softer elastic, choose knit elastic instead of woven or non-roll. I also use buttonhole elastic in skirts for my dgd. She doesn't live very close and she can adjust the fit.
It's the same elastic they use in toddlers jeans to adjust the waist.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I second the recommendation for button hole elastic - it is nice and soft and adjustable.

This can also come in handy if you make your children's clothes with growing room, because they inevitably have a larger waist size by the time they grow out of the garment from when you first make and fit it.

Thank you both! I didn't even think about button hole elastic!

That is a good idea! I did not even think of buttonhole elastic either. However we are all very short and grow so slowly, lol. It seems my boys wear their pants for 2 years.
