5-year old GD loves cooking, she is taking a class now.
He parents are into organic. She grew up with ethnic foods, herbs, very few sweets, no fast food, but not a big food budget. She even has said loudly at a restaurant, "Mom, he's not eating healthy!"
He BD is coming-what cookbook or even mag subscription? She is reading.

I taught all of my 6 kids how to cook. During those years, I never did find a childrens cookbook that I was happy with.

Have you considered gathering simple recipes yourself and making her a homemade cookbook? You could print favorite recipes with pictures on the pages and then laminate and put them in a 3 ring binder so that more recipes could be added in the future. I can see making an apron and maybe a chef's hat to go along with the cookbook.

Honest Pretzels: and 64 other Recipes for Kids who Love to Cook!

I just got this one for my 8-year old. She loves that this book doesn't baby talk kids. These are easy, simple directions for young readers with an interest in food (and that's most of them, right?). She can't wait to make scrambled eggs for me now. And honestly, hers are better than mine!

I love Honest Pretzels, Pretend Soup and Salad People. They are all by Mollie Katzen of Moosewood fame. I use all three in my daily cooking, definitely a step above most children's cookbooks. I also like Cooking with Herb, the Vegetarian Dragon.
