Date: 10/10/12 2:18 AM Viscose- spandex is also good. (Lycra is a brand name for spandex). Sorry I don't know any cheap US sources, but never fear, someone here will help you out! -- Edited on 10/10/12 2:19 AM -- |

Date: 10/10/12 11:53 AM Not sure what your budget is, but these 2 sources seem to have what I would consider reasonable prices for what appears to be a bottom-weight cotton/lycra. (You may want to call or e-mail and ask about the weight.)
It might be possible to find a coupon for Sewzanne's somewhere online??

Date: 10/10/12 12:46 PM I had the same problem last year until I found this vendor.
Fabric by the Roll
Don't be afraid of the name or the shipping charges. I've never bought by the roll. Choose what you want and email the vendor for the shipping charges..always a very fast response and the charges are reasonable. The shipping is fast.
Most of the cotton/spandex is about 10 oz...a nice weight and the first pair of leggings I made last year hasn't pilled or stretched out, despite lots of wear and washes. ------ 2009-113.25 yds

Can you give us an idea of what you consider "reasonable" for price?
I know some folks won't pay more than $5/yd for anything, while I consider $10/yd a major bargain and regularly pay $20+/yd for good quality natural fibers.

Date: 10/10/12 1:34 PM Hi Jannw,,
Thank you for sharing your fabric source!
I'd like to take further advantage of your expertise. Would you recommend that 10 oz. cotton Lycra for the Laura leggings? I have my eye on that pattern but not confident about choosing fabric.
Thanks,
Elizabeth |

It's actually cotton spandex, but I do recommend it highly. I've made several pairs of the Laura from it and just used it for the Elle pants in my Mini Wardrobe. It feels good and has great recovery. The 10 oz weight makes it feel heavy enough that I don't worry about underwear showing through if my tunic gets caught in the wind.
Good luck with your Laura's...I really enjoy mine!
