Should I be worried about this? Piecing bits of fabric together

I have all these pieces of cute flannelette that I can't quite bear to throw away so I am putting pieces together, sometimes with coordinating solids, to make adorable bibs. It is fun to do, easy to take a few minutes out of my "real" sewing time and play with the machine and iron and it is environmentally friendly, right? Waste not, want not? Or am I on a path toward qu*lting that I might regret? If I stop now, can I avoid the addiction? If it is just about using up scraps and not buying more fabric for the stash, is it safe? Do I need professional help? I look to the wise stitchers at PR for guidance. Or possibly an intervention... ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown.

Start cleaning out cabinets, cupboards to put away your quilting fabric stash. You will soon find yourself looking at unique patterns on floors walls, etc think that will make a nice block. Must see pictures of cute bibs! But no, I don't think the need not too waste cool sewing supplies is necessarily a slippery slope to quilting. Just don't walk through any quilting fabric isles....quilters have the neatest fabrics!

Truly, I call what you are doing "mindless sewing", as it doesn't take a real pattern, doesn't require color combinations, doesn't require a lot of thought but more intuitive interaction. And it's this kind of quilting I love. I like to do Mile A Minute quilts, where you just slap pieces together with reckless abandon; any size or shape, as long as two edges meet. And when you get something large enough for a square, you cut it out, but only on a slight slant. Then you sew sashing around the squares and assemble your quilt. My saving grace is that I have very little patience and let's just say accuracy is not my middle name. It is quite fun though, to just poke around in the sewing room and patch little bits together. I can't work on my gown at the moment as I am waiting by the mailbox for bits from 3 different vendors to add the finishing touches, at which point it will be full steam ahead and no time for fooling around with flannel. I will try to get some photos of the bibs. I was gifted with a ton of stuff left over in friend's stashes, so I have been making bibs for school. ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown.

I often have to insert a simple project in between complicated ones just to kind of mindlessly enjoy the process of sewing and get something accomplished quickly.
