McCalls 6173 Pattern alteration

My issue is that it calls for moderate stretch knits only. I've purchased a great woven red tartan, with minimal give, no elasticity, and stupidly I tried the pattern anyways. Obviously it doesn't really work for skinny pants. The seams don't lay flat, and the garment is tight and stiff in some areas. I've learned from my mistake, but I have extra fabric left over, and now I'm curious to know if I could modify this pattern into wider legged pants that aren't reliant on stretch knit. Thoughts? Date: 10/10/12 4:48 PM I'd think that you'd have a better chance starting with a woven pants pattern. I think the modifications you will have to make will be so numerous that you might even be better off drafting one from scratch. But of course I haven't done anything like that and have only done a few pairs of pants so maybe I'm wrong!
