I'm attending an out of town wedding in early November (I have until Halloween to sew) and originally planned on making Butterick 4657 but have since come to my senses and realized I don't have time to fiddle with that (making a Halloween costume this month, too!)

So, in the spirit of that dress, do any of you have any recommendations for a more simple dress pattern? I've looked in my pattern collection, and perused the Big 4 online, but nothing is really wowing me.

I am hoping for a dress with at least a wide strap, or a bit more of a sleeve (maybe a cap sleeve?), will be similarly flowy, and can be adapted with a FBA fairly easily.

You know, given that you've already nailed the fit of the Sewaholic Cambie pattern, why don't you make it up in something wedding-ish (a crisper silk like twill or washed dupionni might work), make the skirt longer, eliminate the waistband piece, and put an overlay of lace or something like that on the skirt? The lines are very similar to B4657, with the exception of the bodice on the Butterick (that deep V will take some fiddling with an FBA!).

Do you have the Collette Sewing Handbook?

The Truffle dress is a simple A-line sheath w/ a lovely flowy flounce.

You could possibly add the sleeves from the Taffy blouse (more flowy-ness, lol)

Another option would be to add a shrug or short jacket for the sleeves. S 2183 has some interesting options - and was very easy to sew up.

Some awesome ideas! Cambie is a definite thought in some fancier fabrics, I could possible even sew the skirt from 4657 right onto the bodice! The "sleeves" on Cambie kind of annoy me, as they seem to limit my movement...but I could always make them less wide with less shoulder coverage!

I have actually already sewn Truffle as well (just haven't reviewed it), and that would look pretty in some higher quality yardage.

I think I would want to lower the neckline on whatever I decide on, though... :D
