Now that Kenmore isn't making what they used to, I am in search of a good, hard working machine. I have been doing a lot of online research and reading reviews. Janome 7330 Magnolia is highly reviewed on this sight and others. When I called my local dealer to ask about it, he was emphatic. He would never sell it or service it. This is a model made for the internet market of inferior materials. He didn't try to sell me a more expensive machine. He actually said he had less expensive, better machine by Janome. I don't know who to believe. What are your thoughts? |

Date: 10/11/12 2:50 PM Personally I would buy from a dealer. They usually do carry better quality machines plus you have support for your machine if and when it is needed. I would want to sit and sew on a machine before I bought it. Not all machines are the same. Janome makes very good machines at all price points so I am sure you would be able to find one in your budget. You might also find a higher end model that was traded in for a great price. Usually dealers throw in some kind of warranty with them. ------ ~Diana~

Date: 10/11/12 2:50 PM I'd check with another dealer. As you note, all the reviewers here like the machine. |

Date: 10/11/12 3:04 PM I have purchased 3 of those 7330 Magnolias as wedding gifts, from a local dealer. This model is currently no longer in production, and therefore able to be sold on the internet with a listed price. I would find another dealer, or buy one off the internet. The dealer who told you this is full of it. At one time, when it was a current machine, it sat with other Janome models in a show room. It is a nice workhorse of a machine. |

Date: 10/11/12 3:32 PM What is your budget? That will tell us a lot and give us a clearer idea of what you might like. Mechanical, electronic or computerized? What do you like to sew? Bells and whistles or vintage? What features do you Need and Require compared to what you can do without?
------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors.

Date: 10/11/12 4:27 PM You may never need a dealer to service a new machine as most are lubricated (machines and not the dealer) and sealed at the factory.
However, the issue you may run into should there be an exception to my theory is......dealers don't want to service or provide assistance if the machine was not purchased from them. Especially if it came from a big box store or their arch enemy - the Internet!
Without a local, friendly dealer you will be sending the machine back to the Internet vendor or the manufacturer.
Pack up the old Kenmore with all the accessories and user's manual and take it with you as you visit as many dealers as you can find. When you find the machine that you are happy with, ask about trading in the old one. You may not get much, but it will not be collecting dust and rust while you are using the new "kid" on the block.

Date: 10/11/12 6:26 PM I would beleive your dealer, I bought one of those Janome internet machines and it was terrible. I fought with it all the time. I finally traded it into a janome dealer for a real Janome machine and the difference was night and day. I never had a bit of trouble with that janome and I still have it - In the closet. But I couldn't bear to part with it. Don't buy an internet Janome, they are built different. |

Date: 10/11/12 6:48 PM If they are factory authorized aren't they required to service your machine, regardless of where you bought it?
When I bought my Singer 9960, I looked at my local dealer first. They highly recommended the 9960 machine, said it was of the few of those types of Singers that they keep in stock to sell. It also so happens that my local dealer is an authorized Singer warranty repair place (I know, lucky me, really). Anyway, I asked specifically if they would work on machines purchased elsewhere, both for warranty work or not and the answer was an emphatic yes.
So being it was $200 cheaper to buy it online, that is what I did. And if I need warranty work, I don't have to send it anywhere. ------ My Singer crew:
Sergei - Serger 14T968DC (set up as coverstitch)
Stella - Serger Stylist II 14J250 (set up as main overlock)
Quincy - Quantum 9960 (my main SM)

Date: 10/11/12 7:43 PM I don't know anything about that Janome, but I just bought a Juki F600 from Kens sewing center (.com). Great service and it was shipped the same day I ordered it. Aside from the stuff it comes with, then threw in a gift certificate, more needles and bobbins, a trolley case, another presser foot... No regrets here. |

Date: 10/11/12 10:08 PM This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me. Servicing my machine is pure profit- they have to pay the service guy to be there anyway, and it's not like they would be doing it for free (either I or Juki would pay for it). On top of that, by refusing to service the machine, they've alienated me, and I'm very, very unlikely to go there for accessories. It just doesn't make any sense to me. |
