Just returned from a week with my DS with a suitcase full of blouses to adapt. She has recently been diagnosed with ALS and has lost a lot of fine motor ability. She still can dress herself but can't button the small buttons on most blouses. She sent me some of her favorites blouses to adapt. I want to use te soft hook and loop tape and want to know a good source. The stiff stuff you find a Joann's just won't do. Any suggestions?

Try WAWAK...I think I remember seeing it in their catalog.

Look at the diaper sewing fabric shops such as SewBaby.com or VeryBaby.com for Aplix. That is softer than regular Velco and I've used it for diapers.

She will want to close the blouses before washing so that the hook side doesn't catch on other clothes and tear them or fill up with lint which makes it looks its "stick". If it does, you can take a metal tooth comb and brush out the link to make it stick together again.

If I were a sewing machine, all I would have to do is lift up my foot and all my tension would be gone.

You are wonderful to make these changes for her. I got narrower velcro on ebay. Here is a site with black in 1/2" width. You have to buy the hook side and the loop side separately here. Ebay Velcro
Best wishes to you both.

If you need it ASAP, Walmart has "Sew On" Hook and Loop Fastener. It seems softer than the Velcro brand to me. It comes in red, blue, black, pink, white--that's all I bought so I don't remember if they had other colors. It's 3/4" by 24".

Thank you Lord for my Mother who taught me the joy of sewing.
