Date: 10/15/12 2:09 AM I have a Bernina 830 and I would like to buy a walking foot for it. I've found genuine Bernina brand walking feet for sale at the local dealer for ~$220 and generic walking feet made to fit old Berninas for sale on ebay for ~$70. I might also (eventually) be able to buy a used genuine Bernina walking foot off of ebay, but I'm not sure how long I would need to wait. I prefer to get one with the stitch guide bars.
Does anyone have experience with these aftermarket walking feet? How well do they work? I'd love to hear from anyone who has seen one in person and used it!
Does anyone have other suggestions of where to look for old walking feet other than ebay and craigslist? I don't think I can bring myself to pay >$200 for a walking foot, so creative suggestions are welcome!
Thanks! |

Date: 10/15/12 8:40 AM I haven't heard anything good about generic walking feet for Berninas. Yes, the retail price is daunting. Try SewItsForSale, a free yahoo group. You can place an ISO (in search of) ad, or just wait until one is listed for sale.
Good luck! ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸 |

The Bernina Fan Club mailing list suggests that the Records work best with the narrower walking foot-- as the upper foot pads of the newest walking foot are ever so slightly misaligned with the 4mm feed dogs. Do you use a walking foot with your 930?
Other messages on that list suggest that the old style walking foot tends to get caught on batting, unless the sole is filed down.
The Bernina walking foot is smooth, rugged, and covered by warrantees. Other walking feet are much inferior.

($200 seems a little high. If you ask nicely, someone from the Washington DC area may be able to get a real, Bernina three sole walking foot for you for around $110 ... The economics are as follows-- G Street, a large Bernina dealer in the area, is selling 3 soled walking feet for $189 + tax= $199.50. The $189 purchase price can be cut in price using pre bought Living Social coupons, which sell for half price, increments of $50. Four coupons for $100 plus tax. Total price 109.50)

Date: 10/15/12 8:10 PM My 930 came with its original walking foot. Works perfectly. You don't see the vintage ones as often on SewItsForSale, but they do appear at times. You could also try joining BerninaThirtySomethings, a free yahoo group that focuses on vintage Berninas, and see where they direct you. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸 |
