I have an Ellure Plus and love it. You do get a larger hoop capability with the Topaz, but you also HAVE to have a USB stick in for it to go in to embroidery mode. Both have monochrome screens but the Ellure Plus is larger, and in my opinion, the embroidery functions (repositioning, mirror image, etc.) are easier to understand on the Ellure. Best advice I can give is sit down and sew on both and play with the embroidery features on both. The Ellure Plus does come with a 5"x12" repositionable frame which is nice for border patterns. Also, Designer's Gallery has Hoop Works which will automatically split larger designs for that specific hoop. I believe it runs around $150.00. Go to a couple of dealers and get "hands on" -- it's the only way to tell what you prefer.

I just went through all of this... lol....

Overall, I favor the Brother/Babylock products over Viking/Pfaff.

Also... you might want to ask dealers what their trade-up policies are - you might get addicted and be wanting to get more features in the future. :)

I have an Ellure Plus that I bought a year ago. I still consider myself a newbie to ME, but the machine is very easy to figure out and use and give beautiful results. Haven't tried any Vikings, so I can't compare the two though.
