Date: 10/16/12 11:08 AM We have been cleaning out my In-laws house as they have moved to other living situations.
My find was this Elna Supermatic Sewing Machine. It comes in a green metalic case and weighs a ton. Has a knee lever to operate (no foot pedel) and has all these cams to make deco stitiches (including zig zag). No lines for guides (ie 5/8ths etc); the plate is smooth. It also has a free arm. Good grief!! It is in mint condition, seldom used and has all parts. I haven't checked it out but I assume it runs perfectly. My SIL says it is the machine she learned on.
?This YouTube Video or this one tells you a bit about this machine and how it works.
According to what I read, the Supermatic was the first machine Elna imported into Canada and the US from Switzerland.
It is not worth a lot of money... But, what would you do with it?
I haven't decided yet. The store where it was bought is interested in having it mainly as a store show peice (ie sewing history). I don't have a lot of storage and I hate denying someone else the pleasure of owning the machine.
Also, any stories / memories to share about this machine or any other vintage machine of this era?

Date: 10/16/12 1:41 PM If you have no attachment or desire for it, I'd be trading it to the store you mentioned for a gift certificate you could use on something else eventually. I'd go for about $200 for it if it is pristine. :) ------ nightowlsally.com
On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.
My dearest wish is to have Bernina come out with a machine that doesn't give me a reason to *not* buy it.
2012: New Elna Lotus (mostly for granddaughter), Red Elna Press, Horizon 7700, Gidget 2 Table, Babylock Ellisimo Gold
1970's: Elna SU62 & ElnaPress |
