The 3-5 minutes was spent entirely in trying to whittle it down to 5 contests that I might enter. What I could or would actually sew and what I like to see others make are quite different. Date: 10/20/12 10:39 AM I put down that I'd like to see a self-drafted contest. for instance using your own block/sloper to create different styles. (or even take a basic pattern you already know fits, and adapt it hugely.) Maybe using books like Winifred Aldrich, Armstrong, Pattern Magic, TR patterning and other publications to get inspiration for the styles. There are alot of wonderful features on the forum for new and improving sewers. but I also think there are alot of people who are at the point in their creative journey where they ready for the sort of challenge to create patterns unique to them. It would be great to be able to discuss sewing issues on that level...even working without having instructions is a big step when you self-draft. sometimes it is hard to work out which step is best to do first if it is a unique style feature. ------ Sandy in the UK A practitioner of the Chop, Chop, Sew, Sew method of sewing (otherwise known as Make It Up in Your Head!)

For the "one pattern many looks" contest, I'd really like to be allowed to try some rather simple redrafting--changing darts into princess seams, for example. I really don't like sewing darts, have already done one version of a top where I changed them into princess seams (pretty successfully, but I really need to work on fitting things better). Now I'm thinking about trying some color-blocking, rotating darts into multiple seams.
