I have the opportunity to buy a used bernina 630e with embroidery unit for 2000 dollars. I really don't need the machine but I have always wanted a bernina. My current sewing machine works well (brother pc 6000), and I have a working embroidery machine (janome 300e). I have a few concerns about buying the machine: 1) the accessories are expensive, I would need a walking foot and the patchwork foot. I will be gaining the FHS and adjustable pressure foot pressure. But, I don't have that much time to sew right now so I mostly quilt and mend. I would like to sew more though.

I have a 630 and love it. New last Feb, it was $3500. I then bought the walking foot and the #57 foot with guide for piecing. Is it a good deal? Oh yes! Without the embriodery unit, it is a good deal, but WITH the emb module, I think it is a very good deal. The embroidery module alone is $850 to $1000. Depends on dealer. You will LOVE this machine. It is one of the best Bernina ever made, in my opinion. Others will tell you the same thing.

There really is nothing that will sew like a Bernina. It is rock solid and does not travel over your table. It is heavy, I will not lie about that. Probably weights 23 pounds w/o module.

How many stitches are on the machine? The Tech can tell you this.
How many stitches are on the module?
Dealer support is a good thiing.
Test it on quilting fabrics, demin and really slippery fabrics if you will sew them.
I love being able to adjust the presser foot pressure. Mine came preset at 47 and I have it set at 38 for piecing and this is good for me. I do not use the FHS, as I have not figured that thing out yet.

For me, I think it is a killer deal. Others might think it is a good deal.

Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors.

Thanks, Learn to sew.
You put my mind at ease. I will be buying it from a lady who retired from owning a bernina shop. The machine has been barely used.
Now I am excited.
I will let you know how it goes.

The 630E is a wonderful machine. This model was my very first Bernina, after owning Elnas and Janomes for years. I've never looked back. You will love it!!

Of course, I can't say whether this is the right machine for you or the right time/way to spend your money just now.

I can say that I bought a used 630, no embroidery, no BSR, but with a walking foot and many extra feet, for $2300 this year, and it's the best price:value sewing machine purchase I've made. If I could only have 2 of my machines, the 630 would definitely be one if them. Too hard to say if I could only have 1 if it would be the 630 or 820. Love it, love it, no reservations or exceptions. Easy to learn, fun, precise, powerful, capable. Best/most features 5.5mm stitch width Bernina, as far as I am aware. $2k is a great price, less than 1/2 new.

Everyone I know loves their 630/635, whether they sew, quilt, embroider, or any combo.

I think you will be very happy with the machine. Barely used? How did you get so fortunate? Killer deal, in my mind.

Learn is right, for $2K, *if*you don't love it, you could resell it and likely not lose anything. I'll bet you love it.

That's an excellent price. The 630 is excellent for piecing and quilting. It is a workhorse. Best of luck in your decision on whether to buy it.

Wow, lucky YOU! I purchased the same machine used earlier this year for $2300 and it had quite a few hours on it. It had been a loved/used machine.

That is certainly a fantastic deal for a fabulous machine. Good luck! Let us know when you bring her home.
