used Aurora 430 or 440... which one?
gneebee   Advanced Beginner SC USA Member since 8/30/11 Posts: 110	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 10/18/12 9:12 AM I own an Artista 180 and have been looking for a machine that could use the new style feet collected for my 180 (rotary hook, 9mm), but has the smaller stitch width (5.5mm) and CB hook. I have an offer for an Aurora 430 ($1200) as well as an Aurora 440 ($1400). Those seem to be good prices, from what I've seen on Craigs List and Ebay. I have a separate Babylock machine for embroidery so I only want this for sewing. I'm still gathering information from the owners about # hours on the machines. Both are Swiss made. 'Would love to hear your advice on which you think is the best buy and if there is much difference between them. The 440 includes the BSR and walking foot while the 430 doesn't. I'm not so sure I'd use the BSR and already have a walking foot for my 180. Thoughts? I just got my first 9mm machine so I'm just getting aquainted with the new foot size. They are pretty similar (unfortunately the 450 is the only one on the web site) so I think it would come down to what seemed like the best one to get. Looking at the pricing the 440 might be it because you can always sell the walking foot and stitch regulator to recoop the $200. So I would suggest the 440. If there is a great buy on a 630/635, that is a keeper workhorse machine, with more features. The 5.5 mm feet can be used on the 180. I use the BSR when quiltng quilts. It helps regulate the stitches. A walking foot is a must for either machine. Good luck! ------ There is no easy way! quote from my Grandfather Sharing is caring! The 430 is plenty of machine for most people but agree that you would want a walking foot. Maybe the one you have would fit the 430? If you are faced with buying a walking foot for the 430, then I'd say def go w/ the 440 its worth the little bit of price difference for sure. If you don't like the BSR, you can sell it very easily making your cost in the 440 actually less than the 430. ETA: the prices are good on both machines...but esp so if through a dealer w/ warranty. -- Edited on 10/18/12 1:50 PM --

Yes, those $200 could be hard to come by. I know. Do they have a 450, by any chance. That is a neat machine, as I have sewn on one at the dealers. I neary bought it, and decided on a 630, which I love. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. The 440 is the same model but has extra buttonhole and design stitches. The BSR (used) would run you $500+. If you can afford the extra money go for the 440. They are both great machines and you won't regret either. ------ re-living my youth through sewing...
