Date: 10/20/12 1:35 PM Has anyone ever heard of Domestic Machines? Someone in my area is selling a Domestic Rotary E5354. It belonged to a 90 year old lady who did bridal alterations for a large department store. There is not much info on the internet. They are aksing $100. Any thoughts? Thanks! -- Edited on 10/20/12 1:35 PM -- |

Date: 10/20/12 4:47 PM I'm not familiar with that particular model. Domestic was an American producer which was bought out by White in 1924. White ceased manufacturing machines, becoming a distributor only, in the 1950s. Any machine badged "Domestic" after that was made in Asia, usually Japan.
Personally, I think $100 is way too high, regardless of which era it dates from. If I really wanted it, I would offer $25. If it is a badged White from the 1924-1950s time frame, it will be straight stitch only, and use obsolete feet/attachments. If it is younger than that, it is similar to the millions of other Japanese made machines in the 50s and 60s - very good quality, but very very common.
