I like the heat set at 75 and he likes it set to Arctic Blast. Somewhere near 63 degrees. As you can imagine, it does not take me that long to get cold when riding in the car. I decided during this trip last Friday that I need a short lap quilt to keep me warm. I kept my coat laying around my shoulders so I stayed warmer. I am not wearing my coat, I just have it draped over the front of me. I am trying to decide what size of a quilt I will want. Probably not as big as most people think. I am thinking 24 inches square. Total with the bininding on. I want it to wrap around my shoulders like I drape my coat, and come to my knees and no longer. I will have to fiugre out how large this will be the next time I am in his car. I think for colors, just something simple. Subtle colors that will not distract the driver. Not sure if I want pale greys or maybe browns. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. You'd freeze at my house in the fall and winter!Anyway, a 24 inch square quilt is not that big. It would not do what you want. I would sit down with a measuring tape and measure from my shoulders to my knees. Yep, it has to be at least 30 inches in length and 34 wide. Looks like 34 or 36 square is ideal. The 24 barely came to my legs. I had not measured, only guessed the width/length when I started this post. I do not need it to go past my knees. Only to the top of them. I keep my heat in the car when in my car at at least 72 degrees. My car has a dial and straight up is 75, so a little to the left is around the correct temp. There are times I like it warmer than that. The house is set at 70. I wear a zipped sweatshirt most of the time. I took it with me for our trip, but it was in the suitcase and I could not get to it when I wanted it. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. I have the same dilemma. We haven't turned our heat on yet and Vermont is starting to cool down some. Finally DH covered the woodpile and brought the wood rake down out of the attic so we are almost ready to fire up the woodstove. But a quilt for the car is a great idea. We keep the temp in the winter at 62, or if we get cold, 64!. It goes down to 60 at night, and DH and I sleep with the window cracked a bit. ------ Barb

Blasting air, vent direction and humidity levels. Have lived worldwide and 72 in one area is comfortable and in another is miserable. In fact 72 in AC is not the same as 72 in heat mode. But that's me. Everyone is different. I keep and jackets in cars and restaurants. I also keep and use lap quilts. Great idea. Have fun. You might want your favorite colors on one side and his non- distracting on the other side. ------ re-living my youth through sewing...

Date: 10/22/12 9:16 AM My house isn't cold (68° days/60º nightime) but I got a heated throw for my dogs bed. On chilly mornings I turn it on for them (it has a timer built in and it never gets HOT) and they go into a zone.
