Previously in another thread, I had asked about gun basting a quilt and decided to get the Microstitch Gun to baste my quilt before free motion quilting. I used it to baste a twin size quilt and successfully quilted it without even one pucker. I was able to sew right over the plastic tacks without any problem. I am definitely using this gun to baste all my projects. On my blog, I have detailed my method of gun basting.Microstich Gun for Basting Quilt

Thanks so much for letting us know how well the basting gun worked for you. I've often thought about using one but did not know if they would work. Also, loved the table runner you have pictured on your blog - very festive!

Also the tiny tags did not leave any holes in my fabric; apparently the guns with tacks larger than 4 mm can leave small holes. I was told not to get the Dritz gun but I did not research the Dritz gun so I am not sure if the tacks are larger or different.

great information. I love the use of the light grid to raise the quilt off the table. Genius

Yep the light grid was genius but not mine; a lady at one of the local quilt shops told me that was what she used. I love sewing at quilt shops because I learn so much from others ingenuity. Honestly I would not sew nearly as much or as efficiently if I did not frequent sewing blogs and forums and shops themselves. Isn't it wonderful how we all help each other!

This is what I use when I'm basting quilts. I've never had a problem with it leaving holes. I use a light grid under the quilt when basting as well.
