Subject: Looking for a machine for daughter in Minneapolis Date: 10/22/12 9:48 AM I am looking for a machine for my D who lives in Minneapolis. So far, I like the Viking Emerald 116, but the only Viking dealers I can find are all in the suburbs and she does not drive. I can buy one at my local (Florida) shop, but am worried about where she could take it for service. If I get it at my local JoAnn's, I can purchase an $80 maintenance agreement that covers 3 years of cleaning, adjustment, etc. But then she'd have to find a ride to the suburbs.
She wanted my Singer Stylist 533, but I said no way. I recently passed one up on Ebay for 31.00 including shipping because there was no way of knowing how much work it would need. Seller said "motor and light work", but hasn't been used in a long time. So I passed on it. She is not looking for a fancy machine, but did say she didn't like the front loading bobbins. She is an art student and does children's books so I can see her using this for fabric books. She is also going to do some stuffed animals to go along with her senior thesis. I don't want to spend a fortune, but want to get her a sturdy machine that will last.
Does anyone know of a Viking dealer in the Minneapolis area that is served by public transportation? Or have another suggestion for a machine?
Thanks!

Date: 10/22/12 2:50 PM Hi! Have you checked Hancock Fabrics? I think there is one at 7993 southtown central. The one near me carries several singers and janomes however I live in the suburbs so I don't know about the one in town. Mine also services sm's but doesn't offer any classes. |

Date: 10/22/12 3:03 PM I just noticed there is a Viking dealer in Edina (probably a Joann's). Edina is a big shopping area. There might be some public transportation to it, you might want to check it out or have your daughter look into it. |
