Hi hello! I am 'blocking', straw hats and felt hats on traditional wooden hat blocks. I am in need of a traditional 'millinery sewing machine' for sewing the 'crown' of the hat, to the 'brim', of the hat. I realize this isn't a normal sewing machine request for information in general... but could really use some help to locate a business source or personal source that sells millinery sewing machines.

I'm afraid I can't help but have you tried your regular sewing machine? I sewed a sinamay binding onto the brim of a sinamay hat using my regular machine (Bernina 1008) with no problems over the summer. I just got rid of the needle when I was done.

If the pieces of that hat fit under the needle give it a try. (I assume that a millinery sewing machine has a higher clearance.)

You might also try asking La Bricoleuse. She is a costume/millinery professor and very generous with her knowledge.

2007: purchased 115+, sewed 105+
So close to parity, yet so far

Trying again in 2008
Yards purchased: 133
Yards sewn: Somewhere around 95

2009? I give up

Thank You so much for the information. Yes I have actually been using my home sewing machine for attaching crowns to brims. And yes the issue is the clearance, a millinery sewing machine has a very high clearance and the free arm portion of the machines are shaped very differently too. Thank you again for the feed back. I look forward to asking La Brecoleuse about this matter.

Have you tried Craig's list for sw machines used for sewing footwear? They have very high clearances & you may be able to use one instead of a millinery machine (in case you can't find one).
