Date: 10/27/12 1:47 PM I am stumped for what fabric to use to make casual pants. These are for around the house, running errands where I would normally wear jeans. I am looking for an alternative and not sure wool is the answer.
What do you use and where do you buy it? |

The first two have stretch so closer fit and still sittable and I think you can get stretch tencel also. Don't know where to find them online tho. |

I once found some at Walmart of all places that was really nice. It didn't need ironing after coming out of the dryer.
I made Silhouette yoga pants last winter. Used the Poly/Rayon/Lycra from Hancocks. They look nice enough to wear in public, also they are really comfortable. -- Edited on 10/27/12 2:18 PM -- ------ Ada

Date: 10/27/12 4:02 PM I practically live in ponte knit pants in the winter. They go smoothly over my lumps and bumps, are heavy enough to look like "real" pants, are stretchy enough with good enough recovery to stay up on my eggs-with-legs figure, come in flattering wide widths, and wash-and-wear like iron. In fact, I'm going to make a ponte knit jacket so that I have a suit-type outfit.
Edit:
This ponte knit from EmmaOneSock is probably perfect. -- Edited on 10/27/12 4:06 PM -- |

Date: 10/27/12 9:55 PM Here's another vote for a ponte knit. Wonderfully comfortable, wash and dry ready to wear.

Date: 10/27/12 10:17 PM I love ponte pants! Look for a heavier weight - plain doubleknit is too light sometimes. I recommend laundering inside out and not drying to avoid pills. I also love RPL stretch wovens - I just got some to make a pair of Burda pants! |

Date: 10/28/12 6:46 AM As it happens, there's a bit of ponte on sale right now at Fabric Mart. I haven't sewn any yet myself, but hope to once my UFO's are done! |

Date: 10/28/12 4:10 PM I wasn't considering a knit but it does sound warm. Worth making at least one pair to give it a try |
