Don't you hate it when pattern instructions go rogue? I am missing page 3 of M6382 stitch 'n save clown costume pattern. I just need the instructions for the neck ruffle. I *think* I've figured out how to do it, but man, it would be great to have the actual instructions!

Anyone??

I made a clown costume in the..er..um... a long time ago. Simnplicity 7162. I imagine they're similar. Is your ruffle piece just a rectangle?

I just dug out the pattern, and the ruffle! They had you cut two rectangle sections, and then sew the ruffle sections together. That would be the two short sides which will give you one looong rectangle. Press, and trim under seam allowance to 1/4". Turn raw edge of upper seam allowance over trimmed edge. Stitch turned edge.
I didn't do that. I sewed a french seam. Actually, two french seams, because I sewed both short ends closed.
Narrowly hem all edges. I did that.
Using a long machine stitch, stich along gathering lines. Pull up gathering threads so that ruffle is the measurement of the guide between medium dots; fasten threads. On inside, pin ribbon over gathering lines with ends of ruffle at medium dots, as shown. Stitch both edges of ribbon to ruffle.
I didn't do all that. I cut a piece of elastic, quarted it, and the ruffle, stretched the elastic to the ruffle as I sewed. No tie ribbon closure on mine, you just slip it over your head, and it worked for me.
Turn one edge of ruffle down, as shown. Stitch center of rick rack over lower edges of ruffle, turning under ends, as shown. I did that.

My ruffle was actually much simpler, but I still managed to goof it up without the instructions.

Mine was two rectangles - an upper and under collar (under is wider). (Well, technically, 4 rectangles - 2 top and 2 bottom, stitched together at center seam). Where I goofed was in hemming the edges first before applying trim. This meant that the trim was not wrapped under, giving a clean finish. Oh well!

I serged the upper edges together and folded it down to make a casing. Then I cut a length of elastic using the provided guide, threaded it through and stitched both ends down. Now I just need to apply the hook and eye.

I felt your pain as I'm trying to brainstorm my way through Princess Leia's belt, and temporarily covering a pair of boots for her as well...so you're most welcome! I was frantically trying to get my scanner to work, but was obviously unsuccessful. I was hoping you weren't cursing me for making it more confusing without the visuals, heh heh. My instructions had me hem all edges before applying trim as well. Extra care was needed on the lower ruffle to make sure the rick rack covered the hem...er I should say, needed but not taken! Mine certainly wasn't perfect either all those years ago, either. I think it's been worn 2, maybe 3 times in all that time, so what are the chances someone from PR is going to be inspecting my handiwork? HA! All's well that ends well, I guess. Sounds like you're on track. Have a happy halloween!
