I have been looking for a digitizing program so I can learn to do it myself. The one program i was looking at is Digitize and stitch. the article about it looks good and the price also. Has anyone used it or could recommend something else?

Many years ago, I purchased Embird and a plugin for that called Studio which is the digitizing program. I used Embird exclusively for several years, then just put my embroidery machine away.

Recently, I purchased the Pfaff Sensation and took an interest in machine embroidery once again. That led to my interest in digitizing being rekindled - and thankfully I had upgraded Embird and Studio over the years. Never used it, but I kept upgrading it!

This weekend, I dug out my old tutorials for Studio and spent the entire weekend re-learning the basics of digitizing. I am so impressed with not only the ease of use, but the potential that software has. It is really amazing. The costs for it are very reasonable compared to some on the market.

Not affiliated, yada yada. There is a trial version at embird.net

Edited to add: I forgot to mention that the support for this program is very good. There are Yahoo groups...and you can also email the developers. They have ALWAYS emailed me back within 24 hours!

Here is another site that offers Embird (a little less than at Embird.net) as will as a forum and tutorials.

It is about the least expensive software for machine embroidery currently available.

You should try it, as you do get to test it for 30 days free and see. Get it here to do that: http://amazingdesigns.com/digitize-n-stitch-30-day-trial, and just play with it a lot and see what you think.

I've had it's way older version of Click and Stitch and actually had a lot of fun with that one, and had many fun hours just running hundreds of clip art pieces though it, and stitching them out. Not very much to have to learn there, and for what it just does, not much learning curve at all. Some actually turn out amazingly well and some not so much. You can control some things sort of minimally. A lot of it is just very much dependant on your personal art choices sent though there though, as it's all autodigtizing, no manual at all, and so pretty much based on the image you feed it, and not based on an idea you have, and not on a pre-conceived notion of exactly how you might want it (that idea) to be stitched out wise, when that clip art image gets more artificial intellegence wise created and stitched out- just because computers can't really think like a person, or as good as a person, just art design wise to stitches at all. out. The better your art choices, and the better you are at picking them, for that purpose, the better and more things turn out, like you might be thinking they would. So a program like that is really training you to think more like it and give it what it wants, v.s the other way around. Vector art is is much better than raster art on that, in there. But I had a lot of fun with it. It was not my only digitizing program though, or my first one at all, and I already had years into and knew how to use multiple manual digitizing programs with just a lot more control and all of those with a lot more of a learning curve first.

So if you want to make just any embroidery design, and really have a very pre-concieved notion of exactly what you want it to look like in the end, and ahead of time each time, and want to have lot of control, and free rein on doing that, or just any minute stitch by stitch control over it at all, it would probably not be good as your one and only digitizing program, and kind of limiting. But it for sure is a blast to play with, and I had fun with it.

If you want to be able to have an idea in your head first instead, and then execute that visual idea out, in stitches in a certain way, to look a certain way, as you see it in your minds eye before hand, and with stitch by stitch minute control, then it would not be so good for that at all and you really need a full manual kind of digitizing program most likely instead. Way higher and longer learning curve on that though.
