Has anyone been able to test drive these two machines? If so, how do they compare in going over thick seams, IDT/accufeed? Stitch quality, ease of getting 1/4 seam? Thank you!

I don't see that anyone has reported anything on the 8900 yet, but check out the Pfaff Creative Performance thread here. Those ladies are loving their machines on all the counts you mention above, and much more!
Good luck. I hope you get to sit at both of them sometime and compare them.

I know nothing about the Janome, but can say my PCP's name is Panzy...short for "Panzer", because like the tank, he goes over just about anything. I've had no problems with thick seams, and othet PCP owners have recently sewn tote bags and denim jackets etc.

I love Pfaff's IDT, but they went even further with the PCP; the feed on the machine is absolutely amazing! I can do (and did; see photos in the PCP Haze thread) 1/8" seams. On knits. 1/4" seams, no problem at all.

No having to hold threads when starting to sew; no thread nests using the auto snips.

As for stitch quality, best I have ever seen from any zigzag machine, ever. You'd be hard-pressed to tell which were done by a straight-stitch-only machine and the PCP.

Definitely try them both out, and any others that catch your eye. Happy hunting!

I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! And Rupert (Pfaff 2023), Baby (BL Enlighten), Victor (BLCS), Ash (Bernina 350SE), Pal (Bernina 530), Kee (Bernina 750) and the Featherteen Flock!

Most of all, I heart Woo (HimmyCat). Until we meet again, my beautiful little boy. I love you.

I haven't tested the Janome but I second what Lynn said. I am a new Creative Performance owner, and am very happy with my machine. Quarter inch seams are no problem at all, I've done them while making a knit top and I am working on a quilt right now and piecing is a dream on this machine! I've done a jacket with topstitching and was very impressed with the stitch quality. I compared the stitching, using the same fabric and thread, to the stitching on one of my Featherweights and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference! My favourite feature of the machine is the way it feeds fabric. I would definitely recommend taking the Creative Performance for a test drive.

Thank you gals ! The Pfaff sure sounds like a "Purple wonder" for sure! I'm excited to test them both out soon. The pfaff sounds exactly what I'm looking for, wonderful reviews, thank you both sooooo much for answering my questions!

join us on the Purple Haze thread-- you don't have to start at the beginning!

I love my PCP--In fact, I have a day full of sewing (well, sewing and laundry) on it planned for today.
