Having so much trouble finishing this quilt!

I have a VERY hard time mentally shifting gears, and now I am having a real tough time getting back into 'monster quilt' mode. I FINALLY pin basted the layers together yesterday, and it's all ready to be quilted now. I HATE HATE HATE the basting part, and dread doing it, so hopefully now that I've gotten that part behind me I can enjoy quilting it. My machine was skipping stitches when I tried to baste the fleece back pieces together, so now I am dreading even trying to use it to quilt because if it needs to be serviced I am going to SCREAM and be really upset. It was fine straight sewing on one layer of cotton or one layer of fleece, but as soon as I put 2 pieces of fleece together, it would NOT sew every stitch. I just sewed the CUTEST elephant stitch on a blanket for my grandson, it was satin blanket binding added to super soft fleece. He LOVES his blanket so much the 1st set of zig-zag stitches already came off, so this time I wanted a heavy duty stitch that will last. My machine hasn't been the same since the elephants -- Edited on 10/29/12 2:04 PM -- ------ Cathryn

Sorry your machine is giving you problems! Maybe the timing is off?? That's what I am thinking. It hasn't been serviced since I got it, so it's definitely due for a good thorough cleaning at least. I used Aurifil thread for the elephants and it made a HUGE linty dusty mess in my machine and all around my table. I cleaned it out as best as I could, but the new machines don't open up like the older ones so you can't reach inside to clean it well. My grandson's bedroom is right near my sewing room, and he is a terrible sleeper. Finding time to sew lately has been a big challenge for me! If he hears the machine he knows I am in there and he won't go to sleep, or if he is on the verge of sleep/waking up and he hears the machine he will be up for sure. So I don't even have his naptime to sew anymore. And of course it's impossible to watch a 2 year old and sew. ------ Cathryn

Refer to the maintenance section of the manual for the machine. There has to be some way for the tech to clean it without using a magic wand.

I clean it frequently, at the least after each project, sometimes more frequently than that. I can only take it apart so much, on my machine about all I can do is take out the bobbin case and I have to really wiggle the brushes to get them inside. There are SO MANY wires in there I have to be careful not to pull anything out! What is a magic wand? ------ Cathryn

That's why I have a bad feeling about it...uggg....maybe there is just lint deep inside I can't reach and the dealer can fix it fast! (wishful thinking) ------ Cathryn

Ladies use a vacuum with their 830's and the small vacuum attachments you can buy for a vacuum. I have the attachments but have never vacuumed mine. Take the stitch plate off and use a pipe cleaner (folded in half to make it more sturdy) to clean it and the bobbin area.
