Hi. I've been looking at the sewing/quilting machine reviews and I'm interested in eventually looking at the Janome Horizon 7700 and the Baby Lock Symphony. I currently have a retired Janome 4623 LE Plus, which is fine as I'm just beginning to learn how to quilt. I'm interested in knowing if anyone has any feedback about these machines as one I could grow into as I progress.

Thank you so much.

I own a Symphony from Babylock. I have owned about 4 to 6 months, not sure which. I traded in my Brother 4000D sewing/embroidery machine because I wanted to purchase separate machines for each function. That way I can sew while I emboidery. I just love it. It sews beautifully and I love the large table attachment that came with mine. There is more than enough stitches to pick from, easy to thread. I especially love the thread cutter. I also like the feature that you can set the needle to stay in the down position, yet the pressure foot raise. The display panel is bright and easy to read. There is also a help button when you get stuck and are trying to figure out things. It is a quick reference, though I use my manual for everything. It makes several different button holes, each sews out beautifully. Also, there is a setting that you can set to manually over ride the pressure on the foot when sewing thick fabric. At first I was disappointed in how it handled thick fabric or many thickness, now that I know how to handle it does great. I recommend attending classes so you can learn every function and can use the machine to its fullest.

This is so interesting, when I bought my babylock symphony I had been looking at the Horizon. As a matter of fact I was definately going to buy the Horizon. THe one big and Only reason I bought the Symphony is the Janome dealer is an hour away and very hard for me to get too with my schedule. Both dealers were great, I have been to my Babylock dealer now 1/2 dozen times at least since I bought my machine just to talk to them and pick up a foot. I Truly love my symphony My Symphony reveiw

Tough call!

I've got the Horizon (and just picked up an Ellisimo Gold last week).

Have you checked prices?

Now that Janome is rolling out the new 8200 and 8900... lots of people are reporting pricing of the 7700 to be between $1,800 to $2,000.

How much is the Symphony selling for?

They're both awesome machines. I love the super wide open spaces of the Horizon - which is why I got it.

You can't go wrong with either one of them.

One thing I'd ask... is how long of a warranty (labor and parts) would they throw in. The Babylock dealer here is very generous with tossing in the Gold care thing... 3 years.

On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.

My dearest wish is to have Bernina come out with a machine that doesn't give me a reason to *not* buy it.
