I've decided that buying pillows from the stores are WAY too expensive and I have some pillow forms that I want to re-cover with some sale priced home dec fabric I bought.

BUT I have a couple of pillow patterns, but they are kinda boring... I'm looking for something a little more fun to really add to the decor of my new home.

Does anyone have any pillow patterns they recommend? I have a more modern/contemporary taste (no shabby chic or country or traditional styles for me). Of course most of that is in the fabric, not really the design too much.

Anyways...if you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them!!

THANKS!!

Second the Pinterest recommendation. Also, you shouldn't really need a pattern; usually a tutorial is all you'll need to create even the funkier styles (allover ruffles or bolsters or whatnot). I've found tons of pillow tutorials via Google.

HDWen makes these cute pie pillows..it's a free download. Here is her review of some of hers.

Pie Pillow review

These may not fit your existing forms, but might be good looking as accent pillows along with your basic pillows.

I like the envelope pillows. You know, the ones that have a flap that looks like the back of an envelope, with a button keeping the flap closed. That pattern isn't done with a pattern at all as it's really easy. Using a 14" square of paper (which is the size of your pillow), 2 inches down from the top edge, draw a triangle. (two slanted lines pointing toward each other with the point in the middle of the pillow) Cut this piece out. Then cut your focus piece using this pattern.

Finish the pointed edges on the focus piece with a narrow hem, and lay the focus piece on one right side of your pillow fabric and lay the other piece of pillow fabric on top of this. (It should be sandwiched between both printed pieces of the pillow fabric). Sew around the edges of the pillow, leaving an opening to turn. Turn right side out and the envelope part will be exposed on the outside. Sew a button at the point and fill the pillow, sewing the opening closed

I too keep a Pinterest board made up just of home dec items that inspire me. I dislike making pillows, so boring, but the return on sewing investment is worth it. Also, just google pillow home dec images and you plenty of inspiration.
