I need/want a good, reliable basic mechanical sewing machine. I have the opportunity to purchase a used Viking Daisy 325 at a reasonable price. I'll be using the machine primarily for simple garment construction, some basic quilting and a small bit of home decor (pillows). My daughter also wants to learn to sew, so at some point I might gift it to her.

Does anyone know anything about this machine? I'd love to hear your comments.
Thanks!

There are several cousins to this machine under various names but all similar and they are rugged, capable machines. For years, Viking kept at least one mechanical machine in their line-up with a basic set of stitches and except for being a little bit louder than some, they are quality machines. This one I think might be made in switz which to me is a good thing. Viking feet are wonderful to work with and the straight stitch is usually sheer perfection but of course, you'd need to check that for yourself on this particular machine. I think there was once an Oscar, Madison, and others. I particularly liked the one that had yellow accents! Maybe someone else can be specific about the model names that came before and after the 325 Daisy so you can find more reviews that way.

Thanks so much for your feedback! The machine is being sold by a quilter, who is paring down her sewing stuff. I think I'm going to go ahead and get it. It sounds as if it's just the machine I need right now.
