Date: 11/5/12 1:32 AM I made another 9 patch quilt.
Super simple + crazy = just right.
 '/>
There is an underlying pattern - (9 patch) - and one fabric unites the entire whole.
I think you can see how I used one very ugly fabric in a 9 patch - did an every other sort of piecing -- and it really helps unite the whole top - made from other random fabrics.
The other fabrics were cut and pulled to piece totally randomly.
I love that there are roaches int he fabric -- nothing like giving someone bed bugs!
Picasa worked really well for me for like one glorious week. -- Edited on 11/5/12 1:42 AM -- ------ Drag queen quilter! |

Date: 11/5/12 10:00 AM On the pfaff thread I commented that I love all the bright colors and now to get to see it full view-- it is so pretty! I like the red sash too and how it causes the squares around the outside of the red sash, to instantly be turned into a border! Good idea!
Did you line this quilt or did you leave this one w/o batting?
Looks great! Good job! (we need a "thumb's up" happy face....) |

Date: 11/5/12 10:05 AM Hey thank you got (edit to change this to for) FOR the compliment -
I re-posted b/c I thought it might help the other poster with her idea for a simple 9 patch or other simple design.
For a "batting" I used some pieces of polyester fabric sewn together - and a cotton sheet as the back - it has a perfect weight and drape.

1 member likes this. Date: 11/6/12 2:08 AM Today I was piecing another quilt and got the feeling to go nice and slow -- I love that this machine does either fast or slow well.
I dont think I would enjoy sewing w/o a thread cutter. When I think of getting older machines I remind myself of the thread snips -- but, lots of that could be avoided by chain piecing...
When I had the treadle I loved the sound of the presser foot .. I never really hear the one on this machine -b/c I never take the leg lift off. I dont ever use the hand lift.
I love those old machines and the "click click click" sound.
Dont know why I started talking about that -- but, anyhow..

Date: 11/6/12 2:30 AM A thread cutter is the only advance my 19606 doesn't have. I wish it did, as I feel I end up wasting so much thread, but I learned to sew holding on the threads anyway, so I am used to it.
I think it would be a great feature to have, though. ------ Barb |

Date: 11/6/12 6:47 AM Portland can you tell me what you mean by "every other sort of piecing" and can you tell me if you used the one fabric in each 9-patch or randomly? is the uniting fabric the one you used in the border? did you strip piece blocks or did you actually piece this square by square and are any elements repeated? OTW, did you use any of the 9-patch blocks twice? it has such great balance to it like all of your quilts--was it totally random? FIESTA colors! its so happy/cheerful/energetic...really draws you in like all of yours do! |

Date: 11/6/12 8:28 AM My Singer CXL has a thread cutter. I like it but it cut the threads too short so every time you started again you had to put them through more or the thread would slip out of the needle. But it was still a nice feature to have. Also had a much better manual needle threader also I wish I had on my Janome. That is the only problem I had with that machine. Knocking on wood. It's a pita. Cos because the shop's hours and my work hours they will have the machine a whole week to do something that takes 10 minutes. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com |
