One Way to Save Your Voice Mail on Your Computer Keep Important Messages

When I decided to change to an iPhone, VZ informed me that I would lose all my saved voice mails in their system because Apple voice mail is on a different server system. Ever since my brother in law died, I have tried to keep at least one voice mail from each family member, just to be able to hear their voice whenever I wanted to. Doubtless, there are several ways to get a voice mail from your cell phone into a .wav file that you can save on your PC. Here’s how I did it with minimum cost and effort. I have an iMac with GarageBand. I had a Logitech USB microphone that I had never used. (USB mics are $12 to $25 on Amazon.) I plugged in the USB mic, opened GarageBand, set its preferences to use the USB mic as the input audio source. In GB, I opened a new music file and added a Real Instrument. Then I held my cell phone up to the mic and started recording as the message played. Took me a few tries to get the recording the way I wanted it. Saved the message as a song titled “Voice Mail Jane Happy Birthday”. Repeated for each message, creating a new song file for each message, and saving individually. Once done, I imported the “songs” into iTunes, into a new folder “My Voice Mails.” From now on, I ‘m going to save special voice mail messages outside of the Verizon Wireless system. Back in the olden days, we used the squeegee that attached to the phone and a tape deck. ;) I used to use a digital voice recorder. These days, I have Google Voice (free, for any cell phone), which automatically creates .wav files from voice mails and emails them to me. No muss, no fuss.
