5 members like this. Date: 11/7/12 10:27 AM I know you can by thread racks from the shops or online. But I have difficulty looking for one in Australia. So I decided to make on myself. After doing some research and one day of hard work, I finanlly complete the project. This is my first DIY project, so it took me long time and a few trips to the hardware store. But I learnt a lot and plan to make a ribbon and lace rack after seeing some pictures on the other thread on My Sewing Space.
It turns to be exactly what I want:

Now to keep the exposed thread free of dust. Dust can happen no matter how clean, animal free or tightly constructed the home.
I gave up on racks and keep my threads in drawers. Many, many drawers according to the need; sewing, machine embroidery or serging. |

Date: 11/7/12 8:42 PM Sew up a nice square of fabric that will fit over the top of this rack, which is great by the way. You know, like those "curtains" when people hide things behind. Some pretty fabric, stapled to the back of the top edge, draping down the front, a few drapery weights in the bottom to hold it in place, and there you go! ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. Date: 11/7/12 10:09 PM Better than the best I've seen with your spacing for different sizes.

Date: 11/8/12 2:17 PM Nice thread rack!
I'm curious why you didn't fill out the rest of the bottom rows with posts. |

Date: 11/8/12 11:19 PM A couple reasons:
1. I didn't have enough dowels.
2. I have a bobbin case that can store most of the bobbins.
3. I left the space for hooks in case to hang other things.
I should remind everyone that I later found the 1/4inch dowel is slightly too big for bobbins. ------ http://cozycotton.blogspot.com.au

Date: 11/9/12 8:05 AM I made a rack like this, with the dowels about 10 inches long, plywood 12x12 inches, and I stack up the similar colors on one dowel. Keep it in a cubby so it does not get dusty. Keep my serger thread in bins, and a second thread rack like the first for specialty threads. Painting or staining the wood is makes a nice look too. ------ No matter how little money and how few possessions you own,
