This is for a knit pair of pants (25% stretch).

I made a tin foil crotch curve and fit it snugly to me. There is a HUGE difference between my foil and the pattern crotch curve. How much should I adjust?

The first pic shows the foil curve of me layed over the pattern. There is a very faint pencil line on the back crotch curve where it goes under the hip. This is the tracing from the blue yoga pants in the second photo.

The second pic shows a pair of knit yoga pants with similar stretch the pattern/fabric I plan to use. They are comfortable for me, but I feel they have to contort a bit when I wear them (which they can do because they are knit).

I'm so glad you posted this. I tried a tin foil curve once and when I placed it on my pattern, I was lost. Didn't know if I was just suppose to start cutting out the excess, add somewhere else, or opt for a different pattern. I'm going to be following this closely.

The thing with pants fitting is you have to get your head round the idea of making the 'body space' bigger but still leave enough fabric to go round you.

I have to go out now, but if noone has replied by the time I finish work, I will try to explain it.

If you can get through the political-religious parts of her blog, you will find good information on doing this adjustment.

I went to the Joyful Expressions website and found the video tutorials (2 parts) informative and fun to watch. Got a chuckle at the reference to the "water valve!"

Here is the link.

That Joyful Expressions link is #1! Finally I can understand how to adjust the crotch area. I have measured and altered front and back and never got the results or comfort. Now I feel ready to tackle pants again. Thank you so much for this post. I hope it gets pinned.

What a great link - I'm in the process of drafting a pants pattern (for the first time ever) and this should very helpful in getting the crotch curve right.

Thank you so much for posting this.

Edited to add:

Just read back and realise 2mulie that you posted the info originally - thank you so much.

I am so happy to have seen this post... I have made pants in the past with very sad results. Hopefully this will help.. guess its time to try it again.

I love how animated these two are.. it looks like they have a great time together!!!
