Handkerchief Weight linen - UK stockist?

The only correct weight fabric my local fabric shop had was patterned and I just want plain white or cream. ------ 'The purpose of most fashion is to be ostentatiously non-functional.'

I see you're in the UK but don't know whether you're in the vicinity of London fabric shops. I wrote the "Sewing Destinations: London, England" article, published in the June-July 2012 issue of Threads magazine (which is, sadly, not distributed in the UK). For handkerchief linens I would check out Cloth House at 47 Berwick Street, W1. There are two Cloth House branches on Berwick; the one at No. 47 carries linens and cottons. See clothhouse.com Just seeing the videos of its shops on the website makes me want to go back! My second suggestion would be to call or go to The Cloth Shop at 290 Portobello Road, W10. See TheClothShop.net to see the kinds of fabrics they carry in their wonderful little shop. I have bought fabrics from both places and been very pleased. And if you're interested in vintage buttons you may want to look at Andrew Hirst's stall on Portobello Road just a very, very short distance from The Cloth Shop. It was a Friday this past July when I went to his stall, and his website at wayward.co does say he's at the Portobello Road market on Fridays. Good luck!
