Date: 11/9/12 4:14 PM I have a very soft, slightly stretchy ultrasuede type fabric, and I wonder, do such fabrics shrink in the wash and does it need to be prewashed?. |

Date: 11/9/12 11:23 PM I have had very good luck washing garment microsuedes. I don't know about true (expensive) Ultrasuede, or the heavier stuff they sell in the upholstery section.
I use a warm wash/warm dry. It comes out soft and unwrinkled--generally very cooperative! It may change the nap *ever so slightly,* but you probably won't even notice. The only time I found that noticeable was on some laser cut microsuede, and a very slight fuzziness was noticeable along the crisp edges of the piercings. It actually made the nap more visible and suede-like, if that makes sense.
I have occasionally had them fray on me, which was a surprise. But not horribly.
Good luck! ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

From your experience, do these fabrics shrink? If not there really wouldn't be much point in prewashing. |

Date: 11/10/12 10:46 AM I'm not sure if they shrink, but FWIW, I've had some bleed dye quite badly. Once I got all the extra dye out, the fabric looked just as good, but boy was that water dark! I was very glad I hadn't thrown it in with my regular laundry. ------ - Labore est orare (work is prayer) - John Ruskin |

Date: 11/11/12 4:27 AM Interesting! I'll soak a swatch of the fabric to see if that happens. |
