I have a Viking #1+ with embroidery and all the hardware and software. My husband sold the computer that ran Windows 95 and my files. I have a copy of Windows 95 but it will not operate on the computer I have gotten for it. The systems do seem to be downward compatible. Should I start saving for an Ultimate Box or Embroidery Assistant? I am not sure they are compatible with the E card read/write card that inserts into my machine. I have been married for 35 years, so getting rid of my husband is not a viable option!!!

This mishap occurred 4 years ago and I have no idea how to resolve my problems, I need suggestions.

Thank you,

Steffie

Is it possible that the software has free updates to make it compatible with newer operating systems?

I have the Designer's Gallery suite of software and they do provide upgrades to work with new operating systems.

He owes you big time. Can you get the computer back?

AdaH, exactly!

You could check Craigslist for an older computer.

We got a much cheaper, although bleepin' annoying lesson on this with our old Mavica camera. Camera works perfectly well, taking great photos, but the software is not compatible with newer operating systems and Sony no longer supports that camera model with updates.

Our son is a computer professional and explained that I could get software that could make the computer accept and act as if it was under different systems (with the system software). My computer has been near death for two years (iPad has helped relieve much of its day to day burdens) and I don't want to invest in it so we chose a new camera.

Do you have someone in the family that is extremely computer literate who could help you with this?

Or, you might start a thread here about running Windows 95 on a new computer. Someone at Best Buy and/or an Apple store should be able to answer questions on this too. And, check with your local Viking shops to see if anyone there can help.

You have my sympathy. I can imagine that you have a pile of projects in the line up for the next few weeks; not a good time to be dealing with this.

I have a windows 98 computer that works with the Viking 1+, Bought it at a garage sale. My 1+ is ill right now, embroidery only, but I know what day it will be repaired and I will have the old computer waiting. I was able to transfer designs from a newer computer to the old one via Cd's so will not risk hooking the old one up to internet and getting it ill. I would look around for someone who saves everything, they may have older computer system hanging around.
Good Luck

Pity you can't replace the husband.

I bought the Ultimate Box for my # 1+. It comes with a card that can be used in your sewing machine, so no problem there. The good thing is the Ultimate Box has a USB cable and software that is compatible with current computers. It is actually a good investment IMHO if you intend on keeping your machine for a while longer. I'm I glad I bought it. The card holds twice as many designs too.

No. He was supposed to put it away for the Yard sale, instead, it was sold to an unkown person.

My husband, son and daughter work at Best Buy! They have not been able to solve this problem. I appreciate your suggestions and I do have a heap of projects waiting impatiently for me. Thank you.

I guess I should be hitting the Garage Sale circuit for an older, unloved computer. I will also try your CD transfer idea. Thank you, I really appreciate all the help.

Way cool! I have been looking at that product and others. I was not confident it would solve my problem. Now I know what my repentant husband, and kids, can get me for Christmas!! Then I would stop whining about how they sold my computer for my wonderful, fabulous and much loved Sewing machine.
Thank you for taking the time to post. Super helpful.
