Date: 11/14/12 5:11 PM I'd like to make some women's flannel PJs, using lavendar-pink-white plaid woven fabric. (It's not as cutsy as it sounds.) It seems every pattern calls for the same top: button down with piping along the front center and collar seams plus a shirt collar. I don't like it. Any alternatives you can suggest? Since we're talking woven fabric, a simple pull-over style won't work, and I would like to have some shaping so that I don't wrestle with a lot of excess fabric while trying to go to sleep.
Thank you,

Date: 11/14/12 5:31 PM take a look at the flannel nightgown patterns, find one you like and cut it off at the hip. Or look at the patterns for scrubs. Every nurse I know admits to sleeping in an old favorite set of scrubs at least once in a while. I bought scrubs for summer pajama pants for my son, then found out he wears his flannel ones year-round!
Can I also suggest that a buttoned shoulder seam is also quite comfortable for sleeping; just make sure the shirt is wide enough at the waist to pull down over your bust. ------ Measure twice, cut once. |

It was especially useful for her when she broke her wrist - no buttons to do up plus it fit over her cast. I just lengthened the sleeves a bit but kept the very slight bell shape. ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

I make woven bottoms for the family and buy coordinating t-shirts for the tops. It is not worth my time to make the tops. ------ Proud parent of a Dwight International School Honour Roll Student |

Date: 11/15/12 5:41 PM Butterick 5571 may be a possibility. I sewed it in flannel and it slips over my head easily and is comfy. ------ Sylvia |

Date: 11/15/12 6:22 PM A pullover would work of the neckline were low enough and it wasn't too tight. Why not just leave off the collar and piping? What features are you looking for instead? ------ Melanie |

If I had coordinating knit fabric, I might also go for flannel bottoms and knit top, why didn't I even think of that!
In any case, it's high time to sleep in more stylish stuff than what I am currently wearing.

I've always liked this pattern, but have never gotten around to making it up yet. |
