Date: 11/15/12 4:07 AM DD bought an Apple TV gadget and passed it on to me to figure out what to do with it. I have no trouble setting it up, but now what?
Anyone out there wanting to tell me what they use theirs for and why it is a good idea to have one? ------ Taking in is happier than letting out.

Date: 11/15/12 5:35 AM We love ours, but it's an older model with a hard drive that you can store music and video on. I ripped our entire music collection to iTunes, then loaded it all onto the AppleTV, so we have a "jukebox" in the living room plugged into the stereo. Of course you can do the same thing by streaming it from your computer with the newer AppleTV's.
As for TV, we have no antennae reception where we live and won't pay for satellite/cable as there's only a few stations we watch, so if there is a TV show or movie we want to see, we simply buy or rent it on the AppleTV, and watch it at our leisure, commercial free. ------ Bernina Artista 630 ✂ Bernina Aurora 430 ✂ Bernina 1300MDC ✂ Babylock BLCS ✂ APQS Millennium ✂ Juki TL2010Q ✂ Singer 201-2 ✂ Singer 301 ✂ Singer 401A ✂ Singer 15-91 ✂ Singer Featherweight 222K ✂ Singer Featherweight 221

Basically, it lets me use the marginally bigger screen and much better speakers in my living room. If your Internet connection is fast, you can buy/rent videos of the apple store. I believe it has a Hulu plus and Netflix clients, if those services can be used in Australia.
If you have a ipad/iPhone, the Remote app is pretty useful, as it has a real keyboard. |

There are also ALL the major sport networks on it (I do think you have to join at a price for those) but watching sports isn't my thing. I mostly got it to watch movies via Netflix while I am sewing - cuts down on all the DVD's I was either renting or buying. ------ Kemish |

Date: 11/15/12 11:09 PM I would be interested in opinions of Apple TV vs. Roku XD... thinking of a purchase and leaning toward Roku due to available content, including streaming for Amazon Prime members.
