bought a Babylock Sofia 2 anyone ekse have one?

It quickly became my backup and travel machine due to SMAD and I purchased a Viking DDD. But the Sofia can do it all. I recommend the 1/4 " (without guide) if you're a quilt sewer like me. wouldn't do without it. I use Embird basic to combine and edit embroidery designs. It is really nice for adding lettering to designs with their built in alphabets you can buy each per font. Then just transfer it over on a stick drive. There are gobs of cute 4 X 4 designs that you just copy to the stick drive and stitch out. It makes a great stitch and is the best workhorse and is so much easier to take to class. Yes the Embrid basic embroidery would be great to start with. There is another one that is Mac friendly if you have a make you can goggle the name as it has slipped my mind. The difference between these two and the other combos of this design are that they have a large selection of decorative stitches onboard. The SE-400 is a great little machine. You just get the stitches that appear on the front of the machine for that one.

IIRC, I think I just got an email recently from Amazon that even lowered that price a tinch. My main intention with that machine was just to see if I even liked doing embroidery (at all!!!!) before diving into a TOL machine. I originally intended to keep it for my granddaughter... but the one thing that bummed me out was that on the Brother site, it said that designs could be moved over by memory stick - and that wasn't the case. It needed to be USB'd directly to the computer. For me, that was enough to justify sending it back. (I'm not one to "unshop" - aka: return stuff - very often. That machine is awesome for the price. If a person already knows they want to do this sort of work, then I'd recommend getting the 700 (or 770- is that the #?) ... it takes a 5x7 hoop as well while the 400 only goes to 4x4". ------ nightowlsally.com On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.
