I was wondering if any of you who have purchased either a 780 E or an 830 could tell me how the prices varied on the two items above. I am still working on getting one and wondered about the prices and if there are any specials coming up. Thanks.

I paid $10,500 for a floor model 830LE in August 2011. I could have bought a regular 830 brand new for the same price. My dealer is selling the 780 for $9,999.

If you want an opinion on which model to buy, here it is: choose the 780. Based on brief experience at the dealer where I work, the 780 is easier for most sewers. Those who bought the 780 began sewing immediately with little instruction and are very happy. The 830E has quite a learning curve.

I have the 830LE and had no trouble at all learning to operate my machine. But, I had owned a 630 and 730 before I bought the 830, which might explain why the transition was easy for me. The screen on the 830 is much more intuitive to me than the 780 screen. To each his own.

The cost varies as if you get financing or not.
I don't know the price of the 830 but at may dealers the 780 is 7999
and the 750 without embroidery (I paid) 4500.
With embroidery I think it would have been 1600 more. So he discounts about 20% off MSRP pretty consistently with most machines.

The 830E is indeed a fabulous machine! I agree, navigation on the 830E is definitely closer to the previous machines. I am not sure why they changed that part of the machine. While the 780 and it's kin are pretty easy to figure out (with some small exceptions), I really do like the way the 630, 730, and the 830E are set up in terms of the screen.
By and large, however, the 780 seems easier for the average individual to operate. I think the hook system is a little nicer.

kse, I PM'd you
I just got an 830, and I LOVE this machine. It is so much fun to sew on, I laugh like a giddy crazy person every time I use it. Hope you get a good deal on yours!

I have to agree with the other 830 owners here.
For me, the 830 had a HUGE learning curve (and still does). I'd never sewn on a Bernina before so everything about it was foreign to me.
BUT, as I continue to learn, I am really loving all the magical things it can do. I wanted a machine I could grow into and it has certainly been all that.
As far a the 780 goes, I've only admired the one at my dealer's.
If I were starting over I'd definitely want to test drive one and see how it feels in my hands.

I ordered the 780 last week and paid $8999. Should be in this week. The dealer gave me a discount on her advertised price of $9450 'because' I wrote a check and didn't finance, etc. I think they have to stay at/above $8999 due to Bernina's rules.
