Well, after all that work - I got the top done, added a boarder and did the quilting.

I hated the boarder the entire time I was quilting it.

It has little circles in it - Now that its finished I really like the boarder - I HATE how the inner red strip rippled so badly. Im so grossed out looking at it.

I might go in and sew it flat and do a hide and seek sort of applique strip over the entire thing.

Has anyone done that to a quilt b-4?

Im furious over those ripples -- I can let lots go in quilting -- but after doing o much work and making a nice top -- Im really angry about the ripples on that strip. And it is all the way around the quilt a mess.

Edit to add pic of bubbles.

Maybe after I did the quilting on the inside of the quilt I should have re-pinned the outsides --

I might end up cutting off the entire outsides because they are the only part that are messy.

The reason I started a new thread was to ask for tips on how to possible get feeling better about the finished product.

Overall - I love the outside - and think I want to keep it - but, Im not happy with the inner red strip.

Ideas?

Holley moley, Batman! That is your most stunning quilt yet!!!! Love the red, love the design and the sense of movement. I had to go looking for the ripple because honestly, I would had not seen it until you mentioned it. It is a beautiful quilt. And it has so much more going for than the effort it would take to fix it.

I think the quilt is stunning. And, I like the quilt bubbles in the outside border.

Excellent work.

Hey thank you -

Maybe this pic will show what I mean better -

The inner red strip ripples like this all the way around the quilt -

Im ok with things no being flat or even a little bumpy in places -- but this is like this all the way around - I just dont like it after spending so much time doing the other parts.

I dont know - maybe tomorrow It wont bother me so much. I have made quite a few flat quilts now -- that I did not want my special one to have old problems in it --

I might take my own advise and be happy with the finished project - flaws and all.

I see what you mean, but:

a) I don't think it is as bad as you think
b) have you tried starching it a little and ironing it?
c) instead of appliqueing all over it, what about bias strips on either side of the inner border, thus minimizing the ripples but keeping the red?

Compliments! I love them! - thank you

What a great tip on the iron and starch!

I never think to iron finished projects - and maybe that would reduce the issue to a more normal for me quilting look -- I appreciate the other ideas, too -- I will try to iron first --

You are prob right -- I quilted those circles most of the day (7 hours) - and had to add so much extra batting to keep the surface of the circles from doing the ripple - that some of them look like those glorious () puff quilts from the 70's.

I was getting more and more wound up the whole time. I was thinking... "i worked so hard to make this right, now, Im going to mess it up on the home stretch" -- I prob did get crazier than its worth getting.

I did pull away from the sewing machine - and will not do the binding until tomorrow.

to paraphrase Eleanor Burns - if you can't see it driving by in a car at 25mph, it doesn't matter!

Beautiful quilt. Relax about it.

Yes!

I love those tips.

I was so happy with the inside - when the outside sorta fell apart I felt pretty beat up. Ill see how I feel in the AM -

Ill take a pic outside in normal light and see what shows up.
