Date: 11/19/12 0:57 AM I am wondering what type and where to find fabric for basic black leggings. I want it matte ( preferably with black Lycra), great recovery so it wont bag, and something that won't pill.
I have some stash fabric for more athletic leggings for yoga...but I am just not sure what fabric you use for everyday leggings.
Thanks for any suggestions and insight! ------ Raye Ann

Date: 11/19/12 6:04 AM Well, I made successfully leggings from a leightweigt material containing 96 % viscose and 4% spandex. It came from a Dutch webshop, so,I'm sorry, that'snot easy for you. |

Date: 11/19/12 5:57 PM Spandex House or World will both have something, but I found basic leggings for $5 at Tuesday Morning last week. Even as easy as they are to make, it's not worth it to do it myself for that. |

Date: 11/19/12 10:09 PM Thanks for the suggestions- I emailed Ann @ Gorgeous Fabrics bc she had something that sounded good for leggings. She confirmed it would be perfect, so I bought some.
Wish I had found some I liked for $5!
I used the Jalie leggings pattern today for some yoga capris and was happy with the fit. Looking forward to my new leggings already! ------ Raye Ann

Date: 11/19/12 10:23 PM I used a rayon/lycra (I think) from Gorgeous Fabrics - cost much more than $5 but they are gorgeous to wear and feel lux on. ------ Sue (Toowoomba Qld)

Date: 11/20/12 1:53 AM Yes,fine when leggings have a good fIt. I prefer the good fit of the home made ones . I feel so very miserable with hurting undies. Ans a pair of jeggings is ready in about half an hour |

Date: 11/20/12 2:36 AM I also find a lot of leggings are made for teens that don't even cover the curve of your butt in the back. None of the stretch fabric here carries content, so I just check to see if the fabric has enough lycra for good recovery, cuz I don't like sagging knees. |

Date: 11/20/12 2:42 AM Interlock will probably bag out at the knees fairly quickly. This, and other spandex from this vendor, is what I've been using.
black cottom spandex
Great shipping and the fabrics have been very good..wear well. The shipping price is by the yard, so choose what you want and email her. The shipping has never been what eBay says, and is in line with other vendors.

Date: 11/20/12 10:25 AM I recently made leggings for my DIL from Kwik Sew 3463 using this black cotton/lycra She is delighted with them and wants other colors! They hold their shape and she especially likes that they are longer than RTW so now she can have that scrunchy look by the ankles like the model on the pattern. I've already made some for my GD in other colors which wear well without bulging out. So pretty much I'd say any similar fabrics to this black would work. This was a super easy pattern too. ------ Thank you Lord for my Mother who taught me the joy of sewing. |
