Batting? Any good sources for quantity?
PortlandMaine   Advanced Beginner ME USA Member since 1/29/11 Posts: 1669	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 11/20/12 9:21 PM I keep sewing with recycled blankets - or, other used fabrics stuffed into quilts - Im fine with it and it looks fine --- But, sometimes Im lazy and just want the batting to be at my house, new - and have no requirement to be pre-washed and dried to kill potential bedbugs. I keep looking to buy a roll of batting - ? Anyone found a good source for that? Or is there a great deal on other batting I should know about? I ask because at J's on Friday they have both a sale and a coupon for batting - and I might get lots there - unless there is a different option. Finding queen size blankets seems like its getting harder and harder. Finding used blankets at all seems to be getting harder. ------ Drag queen quilter!
AminaHijabi Advanced Beginner Member since 10/22/10 Posts: 841	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 11/20/12 9:57 PM I bought a bolt of interfacing last black friday for nothing (interfacing is never on sale so that 60% of regular priced item coupon or whatever it was you know) I'm sure the same thing would work with a bolt of interfacing. I haven't done the calculation yet if it's cheaper to buy it by the measure from the LQS or pre-packaged. They have their markup, but the batting is nicer and it's always 108 (I think) long so lots of scraps. I may even have enough scraps to piece together a whole quilt batting now. You can also use the scraps for trapunto if you so desired.

Is that too thin to line a quilt? Is there another interfacing I am forgetting/don't know about Joann's sales?

I decided to buy a bit of it for a quilt im making and see how it works. I would like to keep going with the recycled -- but its getting colder and more people think of thick quilts now. ------ Drag queen quilter!

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't another "interfacing" I didn't know about that could also be batting! I never thought about using interfacing to line quilts before! Of course it doesn't matter, b/c I see it's sold out---but I got an email from Joann's today for one of their doorbusters for today and one was for batting: doorbuster batting 11/20 only They had the batting for $29.99 for the bolt, reg. $99.99. Each bolt 20 yards. I wasn't sure what "Siliconized" means either.... I only point out the doorbuster, incase they do this again later this week or maybe during December (I thought they had "doorbusters" throughout all of December last year, but cannot remember).
AminaHijabi Advanced Beginner Member since 10/22/10 Posts: 841	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 11/20/12 11:47 PM Oh sorry, I was just comparing the prospect of buying a whole bolt of batting to my actual purchase of an entire bolt of interfacing You CAN use interfacing to help piece together batting (scraps of batting from old projects or whatever) if you're short on batting or want to recycle it.
