Slinky Tell All Prep, cutting and sewing.

I've ordered some and would appreciate absolutely any and all comments and suggestions on working with slinky fabric. Maximum prewash temperature? Hang dry after prewash? Lay flat to dry? Or, can I use the dryer? Cutting tips? Sewing/serging tips? Needles, thread? Use of clear elastic? I have no previous experience sewing with slinky knits. I have a serger and a sewing machine with good stretch stitches. ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct.

I've made one garment last year and although it came out fine and wearable, I just don't like the fabric. It's too heavy for me. I'm sure your projects will come out perfect. As I recall, I prewashed in cold and tumbed dry air only. Sorry to be of no additional help. I'm sure others will come along with loads of info for you.

I need some pants for therapy and doctor's visits. The slinky knit is perfect, there is so much horizontal stretch that the leg will roll up to infinity and beyond and snap right back in shape when I am finished. It was prewashed with warm water and warm dryer. I treated the finished garment the same way. Don't overdo the ease. It definitely grows lenthwise. Serge all seams. It was cut with a roller cutter, but make sure the fabric is flat and not stretched out. slinky top second slimnky top -- Edited on 11/21/12 8:17 PM -- ------ Marilyn January 2009 to January 2010 81 yards out and 71yards in January 2010 to the present 106.7 yards out and 146.5 yards in. January 2011 to the present: 47 yards out and 69 yards in.

Great tops especially considering what a nuisance it must have been to tame the fabric to keep your horizontal lines level. Your beautifully finished necklines give me confidance. The warm/warm prewash suggestions are reassuring since I have hot tap water all summer. Thank you for the stretch in the length reminder; I'll be sure to start with a fit that is a bit more lifted in the rear than normal. Date: 11/21/12 9:43 PM I purchased a slew of that gorgeous burgundy slinky. NUMMMM! Machine wash cold, no bleach. Machine dry, low/delicate. Don't hang to dry; if no dryer, lay flat. Slinky is...well...slinky so for best control, handbaste first with long running stitch and then sew or serge. VIP!!! Slinky will grow during wearing so stabilize shoulder and neckline seams! Which colors did you order? Let's do a Slinky Sew-Along! ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life!
