Have made shoulders with small and tapered out to medium from armhole. Now there is a large gap in front of my arm. Have tried doing a dart and it is passable, but wonder if there is anything I could do to the pattern paper to eliminate this from happening. Have read other posts from a few years back, but wonder if there is a easy way to do this.

Thank you.

Are you doing View A sleeveless? for me, a good deal of the fix for this is to take a bigger seam allowance in the outer shoulder seam. Put it on inside out and pin the shoulder seam closest to the arm and see if that helps.

Do you need to do a FBA?

It sounds like you need an fba. This will eliminate the gap. You do need to do this ahead of time. Since this is sleeveless you can use a knit band to pull in the excess.

I am making this view as shown on the envelope with sleeves, but I guess I should have said when the sleeves are put on there is extra fabric creating an amount that could be darted.

Thank you all.

I use the technique shown in this tutorial to rotate the unsewn dart into a standard bust dart. You do have to do a tissue fit or a muslin first to find out how much to rotate.

Starting with a smaller size and doing an FBA would do the same thing from the other end but I actually find this approach faster a lot of the time.
