I am hoping someone with a copy of the latest fall Ottobre Woman can help me out with a question on this pattern. I posted the same question on the sole review of it, but I think this is a more likely venue to have the question answered. I'll just copy what I wrote there below:

The instructions say that the length of the elastic needed is marked on the pattern sheet, but for the life of me I cannot find it. Is it merely the length of the top edge, doubled?
I have this all cut out and I'm itching to sew it up. But the fabric is from stash and I can't get more. I don't want to blow it - especially since I do really love the fabric and I think it's perfect for this pattern.

Date: 11/24/12 3:49 AM I haven't made this but think I will have to after looking at the pattern again! My understanding is that you use the pattern piece to determine the length of the elastic.
It is the same length as the top-edge seam allowance. My guess is it is used to stabilise the seam.

The function of the elastic is stabilizing the seam. I agree with that. But the pattern asks for a rib tricot and I think it might be better to sew the elastic on while you have it stretched .Howmuch negative ease/ It depends on the material but something between 10 and 20%. The result should be a firm seam that doesn't look stretched nor gathered |

 1 member likes this. Thank you, everyone! It does seem to be working, using the length of the top edge. It's been a bit of a pain to attach - I am extremely glad I worked out the bugs on scrap material because it took me yards of clear elastic, an elastic foot AND wash away stabilizer to get it to run right on this particular knit. I have gnashed my teeth many times but as long as I keep screwing up only on the scrap fabric I'll take it.
