My Go-To Jacket (sob!) (good thing I sew...)

Tan gabardine with a plaid flannel lining. So easy to toss on, never too hot or too cold: but roomy enough to wear a sweater under. Plus, you just fling it into the wash. I wore it OUT! Then I made myself a duplicate (view C here... I've had it (and loved it) for years AND SOMEHOW, I LOST IT! I must have left it on the subway. It's driving me a little nuts thinking where I could have left it. Maybe I left it at church and it went into a bag for Hurricane Sandy victims. I've been trying to live without it, but no luck. Whenever I'm going out casually: THAT'S the jacket I want. I am so missing it! I just went to a local store where I bought the fabric before and they dug up the exact same plaid flannel lining and an even better gabardine. This time around, I'll make it with lots of pockets. Soooo glad I sew. I just dug the pattern out (it's a good 'un!) and in a week, I'll have my favorite jacket back for about $12. j. -- Edited on 11/25/12 7:33 PM --

Gosh, it's nice to have someone on the boards who knows about these great stores. Luckily, I keep swatches inside the pattern pouches. My friend at Value Fabrics found the exact same flannel in two seconds and gave me $2 off a yard because it has some water spots from Hurricane Sandy (I'll bet they just wash out). Then, I checked out what was outside at Jackson Fabrics: a gorgeous green gabardine for an incredible $1.50 a yard. If green was my color, I'd have made myself TWO jackets. Maybe I can get it to work if I make a dark brown, contrast corduroy collar... If you go, look closely at what Jackson has outside because there's a wide wide bolt of wonderful cream ultrasuede for a few bucks a yard: I got 3 yards. And then have some wide fleece in wacky colors for $1.50 a yard: I use it as quilt batting! The addresses are HERE. j. -- Edited on 11/25/12 7:32 PM --

Date: 11/25/12 9:58 PM Embroider your name, email and telephone phone # in it ! Someplace inside where does not show from the outside. I actually don't think it's too childish or silly to have adult jackets or sports equipment or anything else that can get left someplace, ID'ed to you, to give someone a chance to try to return it to you, in case they would find something like that. As most people are most times really nice about that, and they really might contact you to try to return something they found someplace, but in order for them even to have a chance to be able to do that, it would have to be marked somehow to make it easy for them to do that.

Had one I wore out- I actually used it to clone a pattern. I made one in a quilted flannel for wearing around the house. Love it! ------ re-living my youth through sewing...

Have never made it up, might be time to give it a whirl. Try the hairdresser. I left my coat there. Searched for it weeks then then the next time I went to get my hair cut, 5 weeks later, there it was. ------ Ada

I decide what I'll wear and I make it. If I want a red jacket with black sleeves, I make myself a red jacket with black sleeves. There are some wonderful garments in stores...I just think it's dreary to always be locked into buying only what they're showing. Me happy too! j.
