I am trying to sew a bias skirt from Pamelas Patterns with stretch woven from EOS and cannot get the seams sewn without ripples. Have taken stitching out once and when fabric isn't sewn sides are "ok", but when stitched, waves are there. I have a BL Imagine and have tried using the "N" on the tension setting and then moved it down one peg and it still doesn't work out. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you

I think you probably have to engage your differential feed, and turn it's control and make it so when you sew, the split feed dogs there are condensing and pushing the fabric together a little bit more, rather than pulling on it and stretching it out.

To absolutely eliminate drag lines, I always hand baste the seam first. Then serge.

PS: Moving below the N stretches the fabric. When fabric is rippling, you need to gather the fabric slightly by moving the differential to the + side, above the N.

I'm no serger expert, but I start with the basic setup recommended for my fabric in my serger manual. Then I get scrap pieces and play around until everything is fine-tuned. I sometime adjust the pressure on the presser foot, too. It might take a little bit of time, but the results are worth it.

I do this also. I taught myself long ago to keep the scraps from cutting just for this purpose.

Some will also keep a sample of a good setting with notes for future reference, but I've never quite gotten that organized to set up a system for keeping (and finding) them.
