 1 member likes this. My Emerald 183 has now been in the shop since late September, exactly two months. The problem? It sews by itself. When I take my foot off the foot control, it just keeps going! Sometimes it gets tired and stops eventually, but usually I have to turn the machine completely off to get it to stop. The techs have replaced numerous "boards" and the foot control, but nothing has worked. Has anybody else had this issue?
My friend thinks it's possessed and I need a priest, not a tech. Another friend suggested I leave the pattern and instructions out so whatever has possessed my machine will at least have directions to follow!  Any clues? |

But I really empathize with your problem; hope some tech figures it out for you soon. ------

Date: 11/25/12 8:53 PM I've had two Janomes that did this, and I too thought they both were possessed (my sewing room has a ghost, so I thought it was she was teasing me). One of the Janomes is a mechanical, and the foot pedal was replaced. The other is a computerized and it was out of time. They both behave now, after an expensive repair bill for both! ------

Date: 11/26/12 10:49 AM A few months ago I had the same problem with my Brother PQ1500. I took it to the shop and he said it was likely the foot pedal. He took it apart and cleaned it and I haven't had a problem since. Lucky for me he didn't even charge me.

I am told it needs a motherboard ( after they tried several less expensive solutions) and I do not love it that much to invest that money especially since I am not convinced (nor can they guarantee) that this would fix it. I am dealing with an extremely reputable dealer and feel that they really have made every effort to resolve this. So, my answer is I am looking at a Sapphire 875, and one or two other machines. This may not be economically sound but it is for my sanity !! I have loved Vikings and have most of the feet but must admit I am wavering. Good luck whatever you decide to do. |

Date: 11/27/12 8:11 AM I have a Viking 715 with exactly the same problem. Seems that if I pick up the foot pedal slightly and bang it on the floor it stops and then works for a little while. (this solution is not a very good one). Techs don't have any answer for it and am seriously thinking of another machine but not a Viking!
I also had a Viking serger that was a true nightmare. It was in the shop more than at my home, finally a new one was given to me and this one had as many problems with it, but different ones. I gave up on it and purchased 2 BL sergers and love them. Will probably look at the BL or Bernina as haven't heard anything about machine sewing by itself.

Date: 11/27/12 10:23 AM I had a similar problem with my Pfaff 7570. In addition to continuing to sew with my foot off the pedal, it ''wouldn't obey my other commands'' (the words of the tech!), by sewing straight when I set it to zigzag, sewing whatever length it wanted, not moving the needle where I wanted, etc. The problem was a part called a synchronizer, which I understand provided information back to the computer to essentially tell it/confirm what the machine was doing. (I'm sure there's a better explanation for this . . . ). Anyway, unfortunately for me, my machine is old and the part is no longer available, so my machine could not be repaired. Since your machine is still on the market, if the problem is caused by some obscure part, it should still be available.
