Moderate stretch knit fabric for tops -- what kind, where to buy?

I want to make some knit tops, specifically ones to wear under jumpers or jackets. So I'd like fairly thin, smooth or slippery knits suitable for tops, maybe with a cowl neck. (Not cotton interlock for this purpose.) I need white or ivory to go with my jumpers and jackets, and it needs to be reasonably opaque. I have a very limited selection of knits locally, so I'd like to try online but I have no idea what such a fabric is called or where to buy it. Any ideas? (I previously posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry for the double post.)

Spandex World has all the basic colors here. I have ordered from Spandex World and the service and fabric quality have been very good. The will send you swatches if you want.
