and there is no pattern piece for the button band. It looks like there are indications of dimensions for the button band in the instructions, but I can't read the instructions. Could anyone help?
PS, I tried Google translation but the result didn't make any sense :(

I only understand simple Japanese conversation and can read just a small amount of characters, so I had to use some online tools to help understand the neckband instructions. I'm sure that member Mikgirl could translate a lot better but here is what I gleaned:
Yes, the patternmaker states that there is no pattern for the neckband so please draft it yourself, following her diagrams. The measurements are listed for size M and the measurements for size L are in parentheses. Since the neckband length is so long, she thought that it was very likely that your fabric would not be wide enough (long enough?) to fit it in one piece, so she split it into 2 pieces that you piece together, that's why there are 2 rectangles shown. She said if your fabric is wide enough, then cut it all in one piece. For the width of the neckband, I see a 4 written there. I guess that's 4 cm, a little over 1.5 inches. At 1st I thought that you would double this by cutting the pattern on the fold, but then she says to add 1 cm seam allowance all the way around. So maybe it's a skinny neckband?
There are a lot of notches that you need to mark hence all those measurements along the neckband neckline. See near the center, the characters 後中心? I don't know if those will show up here correctly. It's between the 6.8 marks. That is the center back notch.
She said that the total length of the neckband will be a little shorter than the cardigan bodice neckline total length so that the neckband will fit smoothly and lie nicely, something like that. So make sure that you match all the notches, stretching it to fit a bit. After you attach the neckband, then mark the buttonholes.

The instructions were in pdf form, so that I could copy & paste them in this great online converter that puts the 'furigana' on the characters (sounds them out)--that way I could tell how to read the ones I didn't know & look up their meanings if I needed to. I've sewn pretty many knits so that helps. If it had been scanned from a book, then I'd be pretty stuck.
Mikgirl, there you are! I was surprised to see this thread back up here. You were too busy sewing all those Christmas gifts to read the forum at the time, huh? You can do the next translation!
