A neat way to flip over the facings with less bulk

Found this great photo tutorial on a different way to put those pesky facings on, keeps out the bulk at the shoulders and helps the cowl fall forward. Look under her first Tutorials section, scroll down past the kids' ruffle dress. I think you could cut that back facing all-one too.

This tutorial is on this page, about half way down, entitled "FOLD and FLIP Facings."

The tutorial at the top of the page, about an "Angled Ruched Cowl," is also very interesting.

Subject: Cowl necks Date: 11/25/15 10:14 AM

Reposting, had forgotten about these cowl notes--I guess they are not going away. Thanks for link, Elona.

After trying, I do prefer separate cowls for draping well and not binding on neck. On the ruched one she mentions putting the ruching on the side or other options.

If you want to draft cowls for basic patterns, how do you figure a width/depth to fit various necklines? She uses a 20" length here for ruching on a basic scoop T.
I use the free Fabric.com Fringe Festival top for a TNT top.
With the tie on, it can be looped around the V-neck to actually have a cowl effect.
